Leah Christie
Owner and Lactation Specialist, IBCLC
I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from the University of Delaware in 2008 and began my nursing career in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. While there, I was able to work alongside lactation consultants and breastfeeding peer counselors in the Rush Mothers’ Milk Club which sparked my interest in learning more about breastfeeding. In 2010, I moved to New York City and continued to work as a NICU nurse at New York- Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital. Here, I gained more knowledge and experience helping newborns learn how to feed from both the breast and bottle. I found great joy in supporting parents and families of various backgrounds during what can be one of the most stressful times in their lives.
After the birth of my first child in 2015, I experienced firsthand the challenges that can come with breastfeeding, and I knew that I wanted to help more families be successful in their feeding journeys. In 2017, I became an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and shortly after relocated to Ohio where I officially began my career as a Lactation Consultant. I have worked in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, taught breastfeeding and prenatal classes and provided breastfeeding education to students and other healthcare professionals.
As a mom of three young children, all of whom I have breastfed, I have personally experienced the highs and lows that can come with feeding your infant. I believe that every family deserves access to compassionate care, and with the right support and guidance, breastfeeding can be a positive and empowering experience for all.
